2Coolstuff Tips - Why Spend Money on Microsoft Office When You Have Openoffice

Time and again many of my friends ask me these questions - Which Microsoft office version should they buy for their laptops? Which anti-virus to use?

So I want to share something many of them dont know. We have free version of office from Sun Microsystems (Oracle bought Sun Microsystems recently) that can be downloaded from Internet for free. Free is absolutely free, you don’t have to spend a penny! Still dont believe it?

Please download the latest Openoffice 3.2 from the below link.

The product is compatible with Microsoft Documents and is pretty good. It is available for all the operating systems Windows, Linux and Mac OS. The product is also supported with security updates and patches.

Tata Consultancy Service Website Hacked

Techcrunch is reporting that Tata Consultancy Services www.tcs.com website is hacked. It was similar to twitter DNS hack last year where the DNS entry of the owner’s domain tcs.com was modified.

Its very clear insurgents are taking “other routes” in disrupting economy.
Will we get to see similar attacks in cyber space now?

Read from the below link for more details.

First Impressions - Google Chrome Browser for Linux

I have been using the latest chrome browser for Linux (build 3.0.190.2) in Ubuntu 9.04 - Jaunty Jackalope for the last 24 hours.

Its really awesome fast. I feel its better than the Windows build (Performance on Windows doesnt really beat Linux). To feel it for yourselves checkout the latest build from the below links.

And now the cons:
1) Font rendering for some languages (Indian languages Hindi and Telugu) was missing. (below is screen shot)

2) Although a flash plug-in was installed in Linux on my laptop, was not able to use flash. Reinstalling flash fixed the issue.

To conclude, although its a early dev release the build was really good. It was not as bad as I first thought and did not crash at any instance.
